Our documentary has been accepted by the Kickstarter.com program. We finished the proposal process and are now in the process of setting up the project on their site. I'll post an announcement when they release our project.
I must say, I still am not comfortable being in front of the camera, but it was fun to make the intro video. I learned about Kickstarter through the Entrepreneurs of Knoxville (EOK), so Wesley and I decided to enter.
Our documentary is about having to start over after you lose everything. Many Americans are facing the same problem. They had a career and could sustain themselves, but for whatever reason, they lose their job. I am no different. I had a wonderful career in Corporate America, and I was making good money, had a home, a business and I never knew I was going to lose it all.
I suppose no one really knows how long their jobs will last. Some people are one paycheck away from financial disaster. When that happens, or up to the point where it happens, all kinds of changes seem to take place. People scorn you. They leave your side. They don't understand the struggle because they have not yet had to face it. They may never face that kind of trial. But what about those of us who do face it?
That's what Kudzu Jungle is all about. It's a coffee house documentary about entrepreneurs who have a dream but all the odds are against them. It's a day to day journey of success, trials, mistakes, rejoicing, crying, and reaching out to the Lord to make it through each day.
We hope you will follow along with our story whether or not you decide to support us. We know there will be criticism as we have already faced it. There will be people who think starting a business of our magnitude, one day at a time, is not the way to do business. But, so what? We could just do nothing about our dream and wait for all the circumstances to line up. Or, we can put one foot in front of the other and trust the Lord that there will be something for us to step on.
That's what we did. One foot in front of the other. First we planned. Then we created two Web sites. (One for the documentary and one for the coffee house) and then we found a place to start up the coffee house. This is far better than doing nothing about the dream we have to meet and work with and help entrepreneurs, artists, musicians, homesteaders, and people in general who just need a place to fellowship.
I didn't want our story out in the public and believe me, I tried to hide it. My husband and I moved to Tennessee after losing everything in Georgia. When we got here, we started a small company but the work dried up last winter. We ended up living in our car and parking at the Clinton Walmart parking lot and for two months, we continued marketing. Times are tough for a lot of people out there. If I am too afraid to tell my story, how can I be a blessing to others who are facing the same struggles in business, or on their job? Wesley and I want to minister to people in any way the Lord provides and being transparent is a start.
